UN opens 7 vacancies in France for English speakers, in Paris and Lyons

Two of the most known U.N. agencies, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), and the World Health Organization (WHO) recently opened a total of 7 vacancies for English speakers.
English and French are the working languages of United Nations, among the six official ones.

And you would expect that, to work in France, fluency in French would be a requirement. And here is where you are completely wrong.

If you read the current available Professional (P) vacancies in France with more attention, you will find out that they require fluency in English, and knowledge of French would be an asset. Check the language requirements below, extracted from job post #41493:

“For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.”


The UNEP is an agency that coordinates its environmental activities, assisting developing countries in implementing environmentally sound policies and practices. It was founded by Maurice Strong, its first director, as a result of the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment in June 1972. UNEP headquarters is located in Nairobi, Kenya, and there are also has six regional offices.
The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

WHO office is located at 24 rue Jean Baldassini, Lyon.
