UNICEF opens roster to work on refugee and migrant children in Europe

Health and Nutrition, Communication, Communication for Development, Information Management and Education specialists are the professionals required to fill the new UNICEF roster due to refugee and migrant crisis in Europe.

All roster vacancies are P-3 and P-4 positions. In other words, a University Degree plus a minimum of five years of experience is required.

The new roster does not have one specific duty station, as per other UNICEF vacant posts. This extraordinary situation led UNICEF to publish this new roster need under the location "CEECIS", which is the acronym for Central and Eastern Europe Commonwealth of Independent States.

Its main objective is to fill positions of first line response in the CEECIS Rapid Response Mechanism. In other words, it aims to recruit competent and qualified professionals to start working as program funding comes.

Concerning this, UNICEF is appealing for US$14 million to assist refugee and migrant children in Europe, following an 80 per cent increase in the number of children on the move into the continent – many escaping conflicts in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to official sources, a total of 133,000 children sought asylum in the European Union between January and July 2015 - an average of 19,000 children every month, according to the latest available Eurostat data. One in every four asylum seekers is a child.

UNICEF is also offering assistance to European governments so that their policies and procedures with regard to refugee and migrant children are always implemented in the best interests of children, and in line with internationally accepted standards.
